Catalyst Design for Sustainable Transformations

Established 2018

Welcome to the Fieser Lab!

We are excited about designing molecular catalysts that enable sustainable transformations. In particular, we are directing our focus to help tackle the problem of accumulating plastics in our environment and oceans.
Our group intends to target the synthesis of molecular inorganic complexes that can either: 1) catalyze the synthesis of degradable plastics that can act as replacements for commercial non-degradable plastics or 2) recycle or upcycle current plastics to obtain commercially useful chemicals.

Beach Cleanups

The Fieser group brings people together to cleanup up a Southern California beach at least 3 times a year. Since we started in 2019, we have collected over 243,526 items!
Upcoming Beach Cleanups are set for Sept 29 in 2024 and Feb 23 and June 8 in 2025!
